How to Set Up Raken Clock In & Clock Out Questions

In this article, learn how to create and assign clock in and clock out question templates in Raken to capture important information at every clock event.

Raken Clock In & Clock Out Questions let you customize the prompts employees see every time they clock in or out. Use them for safety attestations, site-specific compliance checks, injury reporting, or any information your organization needs to capture at the start or end of a shift.

To set up Clock In & Clock Out Questions:

  1. Click Time in the left navigation, then click Review > Clock questions.

  2. Click Templates, then click + New template.

  3. Add your questions, set response types, and click Publish.

  4. Assign the template to a policy: Company > Time > Policies > Edit policy > Settings > Verification.

  5. Select your template under Clock in questions and/or Clock out questions, then click Save & finish.

Requires the Time Clock add-on.


Creating a Question Template

Step 1: Navigate to Clock Questions

Log into the Raken web app. Click Time in the left navigation, then click Review > Clock questions. Click the Templates tab.

Two default templates are pre-loaded. You can edit these or create new ones.

Step 2: Create a New Template

Click + New template. Give it a name. Choose from Raken-provided template questions or create your own from scratch.

Step 3: Add and Configure Questions

Add questions and configure each one:

  • Edit question text — click the text to update it

  • Response type — click the arrow to the right to select: Yes/No/N/A · Yes/No · Checkbox · Text Answer · Choice List · Signature

  • Mandatory — check to require a response before clocking in or out

  • Reorder — drag questions using the handle on the left

  • Delete — click the ellipsis (...) and select Delete

Step 4: Add Sections (Optional)

Click + Add Section to group questions. Give each section a title and description.

Step 5: Publish the Template

Click Publish. The template is now available to assign to a Time Policy.


Assigning a Template to a Time Policy

Step 6: Navigate to Time Policy Settings

Click Company in the left navigation, then click Time > Policies. Click Edit policy.

Step 7: Assign the Template

In Settings under Verification, select your template from the Clock in questions and/or Clock out questions dropdown. You can assign different templates to each event.

Step 8: Save

Click Save & finish. Employees assigned to this policy will now be prompted to answer the selected questions when clocking in and/or out.


Reviewing Completed Responses

Click Time in the left navigation, then click Review > Clock questions. The Questions tab shows completion data per question. The Completed tab shows individual responses by employee and date.


Troubleshooting & FAQ

Do Clock Questions require the Time Clock add-on?

Yes. Contact your account manager to enable it.

Can I use different templates for clock-in and clock-out?

Yes. Assign separate templates to Clock in questions and Clock out questions independently.

Can I make questions mandatory?

Yes. Check the Mandatory box when building the template. Employees cannot complete the clock event without answering mandatory questions.

Who can create and manage question templates?

Only Account Administrators can create, edit, publish, and assign question templates.

Considerations

  • The Time Clock add-on is required. Contact your account manager to enable it.

  • Clock questions only appear for Time Clock and Kiosk events — not supervisor entries.

  • Different templates can be assigned to clock-in and clock-out events independently.

  • Mandatory questions must be answered before the clock event can be completed.

  • Only Account Administrators can create templates and assign them to policies.
