How to Use Raken Kiosk

In this article, learn how to set up and use Raken Kiosk so your entire crew can clock in and out from one shared device on the jobsite.

Raken Kiosk turns any mobile device into a shared clock-in station for your entire crew. Workers find their name on the device, clock in and out, and log breaks — all without needing their own phone or Raken login. It's ideal for large crews or jobsites where individual devices aren't practical.

Quick Answer

To set up and use Raken Kiosk:

  1. Enable Kiosk mode in your Time Policy: Company > Time > Policies > Edit policy > Settings.

  2. Open the Raken mobile app on the shared device, select the project, and tap the Kiosk tool.

  3. Create a 4-digit PIN to lock the device in Kiosk mode.

  4. Workers select their name from the list and clock in or out.

Requires the Time Clock add-on. Kiosk must be enabled in the Time Policy before it can be activated in the field.

Setting Up Kiosk on the Web

Step 1: Enable Kiosk Mode in Your Time Policy

Log into the Raken web app. Click Company in the left navigation, then click Time > Policies. Click Edit policy on the relevant policy. In Settings under Time tracking, toggle on Kiosk mode. Click Save & finish.

Note: Supervisor entries (detailed) must also be enabled for Kiosk to function correctly. Confirm this toggle is active before saving.

Activating Kiosk in the Field (Mobile)

Once Kiosk mode is enabled in the Time Policy, a Project Administrator or Account Administrator can activate it on the shared device.

Step 2: Open the Kiosk Tool

Open the Raken mobile app on the shared device. Tap Project tools and select the project. Tap the Kiosk tool icon.

Step 3: Create a PIN

Enter a unique 4-digit PIN. This PIN locks the device in Kiosk mode and prevents workers from exiting to the main app.

Keep the PIN secure — only supervisors and administrators should know it. If forgotten, reset it via More > Settings > Profile in the Raken app.

Step 4: Kiosk Is Ready

The screen shows all employees assigned to the project. Workers can now clock in and out on the shared device. A sync status indicator appears below your name on the Kiosk main screen — showing when data was last synced and whether the sync was successful.

Using Kiosk in the Field (Workers)

Step 5: Select Your Name

The worker taps their name from the list on the Kiosk screen.

Step 6: Clock In or Out

Tap Clock In to start the shift or Clock Out when done. Workers can also log breaks, select a cost code, and select a shift if those options are enabled in the Time Policy.

If Photo ID is enabled, workers will be prompted to take a photo at clock-in/out for identity verification. If Clock questions are enabled, workers will be prompted to answer the configured questions.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Does Kiosk require the Time Clock add-on?

Yes. Kiosk is part of the Time Clock add-on. Contact your account manager to enable it.

Do workers need a Raken login to use Kiosk?

No. Workers clock in and out by selecting their name from the shared device. No individual login is required.

What if the supervisor forgets the Kiosk PIN?

Reset it via More > Settings > Profile in the Raken mobile app.

Does Kiosk require location access?

Yes. The Kiosk device must have location access always enabled for Raken. Update in device settings: Privacy > Location Services (iOS) or App permissions > Location (Android).

Can I use Photo ID with Kiosk?

Yes. Enable Photo ID in the Time Policy's Verification section. See Raken Photo ID.

Can I use Kiosk and Time Clock at the same time?

Yes. Both Kiosk mode and Employee time clock can be enabled simultaneously within the same Time Policy.

What does the sync status indicator mean?

Kiosk caches all required data locally and syncs it in the background every 15 minutes. The sync status indicator on the Kiosk main screen shows the current sync state:

  • Green dot + "Last synced X min ago" — all data synced successfully

  • Red dot + "Last synced X min ago" — last sync attempt failed, but previously cached data is still available

  • Red dot + "Sync failed" — sync has never completed successfully on this device

  • "Syncing..." — sync is currently in progress

Clock in and out works normally even when the sync indicator shows red — the device uses cached data to complete the action.

Does Kiosk work on a slow or unreliable network?

Yes. Kiosk caches all required data (employees, cost codes, shifts, policies, etc.) locally on the device. Clock in and out actions use this cache and do not require a live network connection to complete. Data syncs back to the server automatically when connectivity is restored. Pull down on the Kiosk Clock screen to manually refresh the employee list.

Technical Specifications

  • Compatibility: iOS 15+, Android 10+

  • Offline Capability: Yes — Kiosk caches all required data locally and syncs every 15 minutes. Clock in and out works even on slow or degraded networks. Full offline mode is also supported.

  • Plan Required: All plans (Time Clock add-on required)

  • Add-on Required: Time Clock add-on — contact your account manager to enable

  • Role Required: Account Administrator or Project Administrator to enable; workers use without a login

Considerations

  • The Time Clock add-on is required. Contact your account manager to enable it.

  • Supervisor entries (detailed) must be enabled in the Time Policy for Kiosk to function.

  • Workers do not need a Raken login — they select their name from the shared device.

  • Location access must always be enabled on the Kiosk device.

  • The Kiosk PIN can be reset via More > Settings > Profile in the Raken mobile app.

  • Kiosk syncs data in the background every 15 minutes. A green dot means all data is current; a red dot means a sync issue occurred — clock in and out still works using cached data.

  • Photo ID and Clock questions can be enabled alongside Kiosk via the Verification section of the Time Policy.
