If your team works on jobs that require Prevailing Wage rates, Raken lets you assign the Prevailing Wage pay type and the appropriate classification to each time card — so your payroll export reflects the correct rate for every employee and every job.
Quick Answer
To track Prevailing Wage hours: on the time card (new or saved), click the ellipsis (...) menu, select Add pay type and choose PW, then select Add classification to assign the correct classification for that job.
Before You Start: Set Up Pay Types and Classifications
Before your team can assign Prevailing Wage pay types and classifications in the field, an Account Admin needs to configure them in your company settings.
Add the Prevailing Wage Pay Type
Go to Company > Time settings > Policies in the left navigation.
Click Edit on the relevant Time Policy.
Navigate to the Pay types section.
Enable or add the PW (Prevailing Wage) pay type.
Click Save.
Add Classifications
Classifications are managed separately from Time Policies, at the company level.
Go to Company > Time settings > Classifications in the left navigation.
Click + New classification.
Enter the classification name (e.g., Apprentice, Journeyman, Foreman, Laborer) and save.
Repeat for each classification your prevailing wage jobs require. Existing classifications can be edited or removed using the ellipsis (...) menu next to each entry.

Viewing and Exporting Prevailing Wage Hours
Once pay types and classifications are assigned, you can view and export them for payroll:
Summary view: Go to Time > Summary to see hours broken out by pay type (RT, OT, DT, PW, etc.) per employee.
Timesheets export: Go to Time > Timesheets and click Export. The CSV includes columns for pay type and classification per entry.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
I don't see PW as a pay type option — why?
The PW pay type must be enabled in your Time Policy by an Account Admin before it appears as an option. Go to Company > Time settings > Policies and confirm it's active under Pay types.
I don't see the classification I need — why?
Classifications are managed separately from Time Policies. Go to Company > Time settings > Classifications and add it there — it will then be available to select on any time card.
Can I assign a different classification per job on the same day?
Yes — since classifications are assigned per time card entry, an employee working multiple jobs in a day will have a separate time card for each project, and each can have its own classification.
Does Raken calculate Prevailing Wage rates automatically?
No — Raken tracks the pay type and classification for each entry. The actual rate calculation happens in your payroll system using the classification data exported from Raken.
Technical Specifications
Compatibility: Web app and mobile app
Plan Required: Performance Plan
Role Required: Account Administrator to configure pay types and classifications; all supervisors can assign them to time cards
Considerations
The PW pay type is configured per Time Policy (Company > Time settings > Policies); Classifications are configured separately at the company level (Company > Time settings > Classifications) and apply account-wide.
Pay type and classification can be added via the ellipsis (...) menu either while creating a new time card or afterward on a saved entry.
Each time card can only have one classification. For employees working under multiple classifications in a day, create a separate time card per job.
Raken does not calculate prevailing wage rates — it captures the classification for export to your payroll system.
