If your company created checklist templates before Raken's Safety & Quality Control Insights were introduced, those templates may not yet be classified — which means their completed checklist data won't appear in your Safety or Quality Control dashboards. This article walks you through the quick migration process to classify your existing templates so all your data shows up where it should.
Quick Answer
To migrate an existing checklist template to the new format:
Log into the Raken web app and go to Company > Checklists.
Click the Types tab and create a new type if one doesn't already exist.
Click the Templates tab, open the template you want to migrate, and assign it a class and type.
Click Save. The template is now classified and its data will feed into Insights.
Why Migrate?
Raken's Safety & Quality Control Insights dashboards — including HSE checklist completion, checklist compliance by work unit, and quality control trends — only pull data from checklists that have been assigned a class (Safety or Quality) and a type. Templates created before this classification system was introduced are unclassified by default and won't appear in the dashboards until you migrate them.
Migrating takes just a few minutes per template and immediately unlocks full reporting and dashboard visibility for all future completions of that checklist.
How to Migrate Your Templates
Step 1: Navigate to Checklists
Log into the Raken web app. Click Company in the left side navigation, then click Checklists.
Step 2: Create a Checklist Type (if needed)
Click the Types tab. If the type you need already exists, skip to Step 3. If not, click + New Type.
When creating a type, you'll select a Class and give it a Type name. The class determines which Insights dashboard the completed checklist data feeds into:
Safety — feeds the HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) Insights dashboard
Quality — feeds the Quality Control Insights dashboard
Other available classes: Commissioning, Environmental, Equipment, General
Click Save to create the type.
Step 3: Open the Template to Migrate
Click the Templates tab. Find the template you want to migrate and click on its name to open it.
Step 4: Assign a Class and Type
In the template editor, find the Class and Type fields. Select the appropriate values from the dropdowns — use the type you created in Step 2, or select an existing one if applicable.
Step 5: Save
Click Save. The template is now fully classified. Going forward, all completions of this checklist will appear in the appropriate Insights dashboard and in checklist reports.
Step 6: Verify in Completed Checklists
To confirm the migration worked, navigate to your project's Safety & QC > Checklists > Completed tab. You can now filter by the type you assigned to find all completed checklists associated with that template.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Do I need to redo any completed checklists after migrating the template?
No. Once you classify a template, future completions will feed into Insights automatically. Historical completions may not retroactively appear in the dashboards — only new completions after migration are guaranteed to show.
How do I know which templates still need to be migrated?
In Company > Checklists > Templates, any template that does not have a Class and Type assigned is unclassified and needs to be migrated. Check the template list and look for templates missing these fields.
What's the difference between Class and Type?
Class is the broad category (Safety, Quality, Environmental, etc.) that determines which Insights dashboard the data feeds into. Type is a more specific label you define — for example, under the Safety class you might create types like "Daily Safety Inspection" or "Pre-Task Planning". Types help you organize and filter your checklist data within the dashboards.
Can I change the class or type of a template after migrating?
Yes. Open the template from Company > Checklists > Templates, update the Class or Type fields, and save. Note that this will affect how future completions are categorized — it won't change the classification of already-completed checklists.
Technical Specifications
Compatibility: Web app only (template management)
Offline Capability: No — requires an active connection
Plan Required: Performance Plan required for custom templates
Role Required: Account Administrator
Considerations
Custom checklist templates require the Performance Plan.
Only future checklist completions after migration are guaranteed to appear in Insights — historical data may not retroactively populate.
If you have many unclassified templates, work through them systematically — Safety class first, then Quality — so your dashboards populate correctly for each type.
