Projects are the foundation of how work gets organized in Raken. Every daily report, time card, safety document, and photo lives inside a project. Setting up your first project takes just a few minutes — and once it's created, your team can start logging from the field the same day.
Quick Answer
To create a new project in Raken:
Log into the Raken web app.
Click Projects in the left side menu.
Click the orange + New Project button.
Enter the project name and address, then click Create project.
Assign employees to the project from the project's Directory.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Navigate to Projects
Log into the Raken web app. Click Projects in the left side navigation menu. You'll see a list of all your active projects, or an empty state if this is your first one.
Step 2: Open the New Project Form
Click the orange + New Project button in the top right corner of the page. The New project modal will open.
Step 3: Enter Project Details
Fill in the project information. The following fields are available:
Name — Required. The project name as it will appear throughout Raken.
Job # — Optional. Your internal job number for reference.
Address — Recommended. Entering the jobsite address enables automatic weather capture for daily reports.
Start date / End date — Optional. Used for project tracking and reporting.
Project groups — Optional. Assign the project to a group for filtered reporting.
Project template — Optional. Apply a pre-configured template to automatically set up daily report settings.
Step 4: Create the Project
Click the orange Create project button. The project is now active and visible in your Projects list.
Step 5: Assign Employees to the Project
Employees must be assigned to a project before they can access it. From inside the project, click Project directory in the left side menu, then click + Add employees and select the team members who should have access.
Alternatively, assign employees from their individual profile in Directory > Employees by clicking Projects in the employee's left side menu and selecting the relevant project.
Step 6: Configure Project Settings (Optional)
From inside the project, click Settings in the left side menu to configure project-level options including:
Daily report settings — Toggle sections on or off (Work logs, Time cards, Notes, Weather, etc.)
Report distribution — Set up automatic email delivery of completed daily reports to stakeholders
Time policy exceptions — Override the company-level Time Policy for this specific project
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Who can create a project?
Only Account Administrators can create new projects by default. Project Admin permissions can be customized under Company > Roles & Permissions to allow Project Admins to create projects as well.
Why isn't weather showing up on my daily reports?
Weather is captured automatically based on the project's address. Make sure you've entered a valid street address — not just a city or zip code — for the most accurate results. See Raken Automatic Weather Capture for more details.
Can I create a project on mobile?
No. Projects are created on the Raken web app only. Once created, they are immediately available in the mobile app for field teams to log against.
How do I archive or close a project?
From the Projects list, click the ellipsis (…) next to the project name and select Inactivate. Inactive projects are hidden from the active list but all data is preserved. You can reactivate a project at any time.
Can I duplicate a project to reuse its settings?
Yes. Use a Project template when creating a new project to apply pre-configured daily report settings. Templates are set up under Company > Project templates.
