Your pay period setting in Raken determines how time cards are grouped and reviewed before payroll. Setting it correctly ensures the Summary, Grid, and Entries views in the Time tab align with your actual payroll schedule — making every pre-payroll review fast and accurate.

Quick Answer

To set up your company's pay period:

  1. Click Company in the left navigation, then click Time > Pay period.

  2. Select your Pay period frequency — Daily, Weekly, Bi-Weekly, or Monthly.

  3. Select the Pay period start date.

  4. Set the Effective date.

  5. Click Save.

Step-by-Step Instructions

This feature is available on the Raken web app only.

Step 1: Navigate to Pay Period Settings

Log into the Raken web app. Click Company in the left navigation, then click Time > Pay period.

Step 2: Select Your Pay Period Frequency

Choose the interval that matches your payroll schedule: Daily · Weekly · Bi-Weekly · Monthly.

Step 3: Select the Pay Period Start Date

Choose the day your pay period begins. This determines how each period is defined — for example, Weekly starting Monday groups time cards from Monday through Sunday.

Step 4: Set the Effective Date

Select the date from which the new settings will apply to timesheets going forward.

Changes apply from the effective date — historical time cards are not reorganized.

Step 5: Save

Click the orange Save button.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Does changing the pay period affect existing time cards?

No. Changes apply from the effective date forward — time cards already captured remain grouped under the previous pay period structure.

Can I have different pay periods for different employee groups?

No. Pay period settings apply at the company level — all employees follow the same structure. For different overtime or break rules, use separate Time Policies.

How does the pay period setting affect the Time tab views?

The Pay period date filter in Summary, Grid, and Entries uses your pay period settings to group time cards correctly. If set to Bi-Weekly starting Monday, selecting "Pay period" in the date picker displays exactly two weeks starting on the relevant Monday.
