If your crews work in shifts, Raken lets you define those shifts inside your Time Policy so employees can associate their time cards with the correct shift. This keeps production tracking accurate and ensures time is differentiated correctly across shifts for payroll.
Quick Answer
To create shifts for a Time Policy in Raken:
Log into the Raken web app.
Click Company in the left side menu, then click Time, then click Policies.
Click Edit policy on the policy you want to update.
Click Shifts in the policy left side menu.
Click the green + Add shift button.
Name the shift and configure its settings.
Click the orange Save button.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Navigate to Shifts
Log into the Raken web app. Click Company in the left side menu. Click Time, then click Policies. Click Edit policy on the policy you want to configure.
This feature is only available on the Raken web app.
Step 2: Open the Shifts Section
Click Shifts in the policy left side menu. Any existing shifts for this policy are displayed here.
Step 3: Add a New Shift
Click the green + Add shift button in the top right corner to create a new shift. Name the shift clearly so employees and supervisors can identify it — for example, "Day Shift," "Night Shift," or "Second Shift."
Step 4: Activate or Deactivate Existing Shifts
To activate or deactivate an existing shift, click the toggle to the left of the shift name. Inactive shifts will not appear as options when employees or supervisors are creating time cards.
To edit an existing shift, click the ellipsis (...) menu to the right of the shift name and select Edit.
Step 5: Save
Click the orange Save button in the top right corner. The updated shift settings apply to all future time cards for employees assigned to this policy.
Once shifts are configured, employees and supervisors can associate their time cards with a specific shift via the ellipsis (...) menu when creating or editing a time card.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
How do employees select a shift when creating a time card?
Shift selection is available via the ellipsis (...) menu on the time card form — it has moved out of the main form to reduce clutter. Tap or click the ellipsis menu and select Shift to assign a shift to the time card entry.
Do shift changes apply to existing time cards?
No. Shift configuration changes apply only to time cards created after the change is saved. Existing time cards are not retroactively updated.
Can I have different shifts for different employee groups?
Yes. Create separate Time Policies for different groups and configure shifts for each policy independently. Assign each employee to the relevant policy.
Can I use shifts alongside overtime premiums?
Yes. If your organization pays a premium for specific shift windows — such as night shifts or early starts — configure those rules under Premiums in the policy editor. See How to Set Up Overtime Premiums in Raken.
