If your crews work in shifts, Raken lets you define those shifts inside your Time Policy so employees can associate their time cards with the correct shift. This keeps production tracking accurate and ensures time is differentiated correctly across shifts for payroll.

Quick Answer

To create shifts for a Time Policy:

  1. Click Company in the left navigation, then click Time > Policies.

  2. Click Edit policy on the policy you want to update.

  3. Click Shifts in the policy left navigation.

  4. Click + Add shift, name the shift, and configure its settings.

  5. Click Save.

Step-by-Step Instructions

This feature is available on the Raken web app only.

Step 1: Navigate to Shifts

Log into the Raken web app. Click Company in the left navigation, then click Time > Policies. Click Edit policy on the policy you want to configure, then click Shifts in the policy left navigation.

Step 2: Add a New Shift

Click + Add shift. Name the shift clearly so employees and supervisors can identify it — for example, "Day Shift," "Night Shift," or "Second Shift."

Step 3: Activate or Deactivate Existing Shifts

Click the toggle next to any shift to activate or deactivate it. Inactive shifts will not appear as options when creating time cards. To edit a shift, click the ellipsis (...) menu and select Edit.

Step 4: Save

Click the orange Save button. Once shifts are configured, employees and supervisors can assign a shift to any time card via the ellipsis (...) menu on the time card form.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

How do employees select a shift on a time card?

Shift selection is in the ellipsis (...) menu on the time card form — not the main form fields. Tap or click the ellipsis and select Shift to assign it.

Do shift changes apply to existing time cards?

No. Changes apply only to time cards created after the change is saved.

Can I use shifts alongside overtime premiums?

Yes. If your organization pays a premium for specific shift windows — such as night shifts or early starts — configure those rules under Premiums in the policy editor. See How to Set Up Overtime Premiums in Raken.
